Hi I am Solveig , your host
at Caribbean Gems.
I was born in Antigua and my parents were German.
Ages ago, my mum and dad arrived in Antigua on a sailing boat.
Full of adventure and spirit, they made their Caribbean dream come true.
And they instilled their love for nature in me.
When I think back, growing up in Antigua felt like paradise.
Sunshine, music, and days spent exploring and enjoying the pleasures of simple life.
Antigua’s close-knit community made you feel like you belonged to one big family and literally
every adult was either an uncle or an auntie to you.
Fruits tasted intense and sweet and ripe.
Life revolved around having fun with your friends, either on the beach or on the water.
This could have continued forever…
But… there comes a time, when you need to find out what’s going on outside your island.
One bold step later and I went abroad to live in the States, in Sweden and in Germany.
I learned and tried new things and learned even more:
I worked as a travel agent in Germany,
and in a hotel, here in Antigua.
I helped manage my mum’s well-known island fashion store “A Thousand Flowers”
and I did an apprenticeship as a horse dental technician in Florida (did I mention I love horses?)
I’m also a trained physiotherapist. (for people )
In 2020, I renovated Marisol, my family home, and added a cottage with a pool next to it.
It took me nearly two years to complete this challenging project with its never ending obstacles
and set-backs….. but that’s a loooong story….
In the end, it all worked out and what you see today, is a place full of wonderful memories,
stunning views and nature pure.
I think it’s simply wonderful and I’d like to share it with you.
You’ll have the privacy of your cottage, but if you need anything, I’ll be around….
… painting, building, repairing, or gardening …. a cat or a dog in tow.
My mornings start with a nice strong cup of coffee in hand on my porch, watching the sun rise.
I enjoy beautiful things and love crafting and creating.
My favorite dish: Freshly caught fish, straight from the grill with a good glass of wine on the side.
In a nutshell – that’s me!
